Writing saved my life – I kid you not!

My dad started his career as a finance journalist, one of my sisters is a sports writer while another is the author of several academic works. I married a journalist and together we’ve run a public relations firm for almost thirty years, writing everything from media releases to CEO’s speeches, website content to annual reports for various local and international clients.

One could safely say that I’ve made a career out of writing, but never in my wildest dreams did I think stringing words together would actually save my life.

A couple of posts ago I said I was ‘drawing a line’ under the Big Breast Adventure in an attempt to get on with my life. While part of that statement still holds true, the fact that I shall never really be done with this ramble has recently come to the fore.  Thankfully this reassertion has been more with a whimper than a bang, but it’s a whimper nonetheless. In order to explain I have to go back to well before the start of the Big Breast Adventure.

7 – Work in Progress

Law 7 - Dharma or Purpose in Life

Like a good little perfectionist I’ve been holding off on posting about Law 7 – the Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life – in Deekpak Chopra’s Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. Why? Well, I wanted to have it all together in my head, to have figured it all out before I started. Let me state for the record that I’m still a very long way from ‘having it all together’ and understanding the breadth and depth of this most inspiring yet intimidating of spiritual laws.  But while I was procrastinating on this post three things happened that moved me closer to getting the dynamics of Dharma and my own purpose in life than any amount of desk research could ever do.

4 – The Zen of surf rips

????????????????????????????????????????As far as years go 2003 was my family’s annus horribilis.  After struggling with her health for some years, one of my best friends quite unexpectedly died in her sleep. Shortly afterward George Bush ‘shocked and awed’ the world by invading Iraq – again. A few months later my mother died after a very short bout with cancer.  Around the same time as Mum left us, the business my husband and I run went into general administration.
